About John Loyd Rushing
I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to very creative and artistic parents, my father is a writer and designer and my mother is also a designer. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. I've been very active in drawing, sculpting and paintning since age 1, I got my first camera at age 4; with my mom waiting on the curb I went door to door selling flower seeds, I wanted a camera so bad, even at age 4. I didn't get my first professional camera until around age 11. I have been taking photos, painting and drawing on a daily basis for almost 30yrs. I don't go anywhere without my camera and a small sketch pad. Many people who see my photos think they are paintings, this is because I have been painting plein air and drawing right along with my photography. I had my first one man show or should I say one boy show at Laguna Village in Laguna Beach at age 12, I sold 3 paintings, all watercolors. I have had numerous shows and showings in Laguna Beach for almost 30yrs. In 1989 I was one of the youngest if not the youngest participant in the Sawdust Festival right out of high school. The Sawdust Festival is a very prestigious and ongoing yearly craft show in Laguna Beach. I have had many chances and opportunities to attend Art School but I chose not too. I like being self taught, this has allowed me to have many mentors and teachers in and around Laguna Beach. Some of my friends, mentors and inspirations have been and still are, Marc Whitney, Robert Wyland, John Eagle, Joyce Reardon, Ruth Mayer, Dale Terbush, John Chaney, and many, many others. I consider myself a master of the Arts, equally comfortable with a brush, a camera, sculpting tool, airbrush, or just about any other medium. When you love art, all art becomes natural and fun. I give back with my art every chance I get, or every chance I'm needed. I have donated many Original pieces for Silent Auction, which include to the Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club, Laguna Canyon Conservancy, Cougar Fund, Blue Water and many others. Whether it's a simple commission or a huge project, I am always excited to produce my best. My life is dedicated to creating and portraying the beautiful, the beauty and love of God, or Nature. What I see is always what is beautiful and joyous; I take this vision and do my best to give it to the world. Thanks, John Loyd Rushing
